Collection: Books - Historical

This collection contains some fascinating facts on history of Canada. 

One book  "The Firebirds" contains an account of the first 50 years of the Ontario Provincial air service - one of the world's largest wilderness fire-fighting organizations.

"Voice of the Pioneer" was written by Bill McNeil, a CBC radio personality who helped chronicle the lives of Canada's pioneers. He is best remembered as the voice of the weekend morning show Fresh Air, and Voice of the Pioneer. Those interviews with Canadians who remembered the early days of homesteading, gold rushes and world wars became the basis for some of McNeil's six books." This is one of those books - possibly the best. 

"Voices From Two Rivers" is the story of the creation of BC Hydro which harnesses the tremendous energy of the Peace and Columbia rivers to generate electricity. This new crown corporation was charged with building the large dams and powerhouses that would turn the policy into megawatts.

At the heart of Voices from Two Rivers are the stories of those who lived and worked around the building of those projects. Engineers, First Nations elders, ranchers and construction workers and their families all have a place in this narrative. The projects were engineering feats that involved tens of thousands of people and touched the lives of many more British Columbians with tremendous benefits as well as abundant challenges.

"West of Yesterday" reaches back into the exciting days when the West was first opened up by the adventurous men and brave women who were homesteading. George Shepherd recalls the tears, tragedies and triumphs of that thrilling era.
