Handmade birch bark baskets are one of the coveted traditional treasures of the area around Great Slave Lake. As birch trees grow naturally in this area, the bark was traditionally utilized to make a variety of household objects from baskets to drinking cups.
Purchased from the Acho Dene First Nation artist in 2005 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, this drinking cup is part of a collection accumulated while working for the Inuvialuit Game Council in Inuvik, Northwest Territories.
This signed artwork was made by Sandra Nelson of the Fort Liard Acho Dene First Nation.
The composition is birch bark and is 5.5” long by 4.5” wide and 1.5” high.
