Inuit Art - Flower on Dream Catcher.

Moosetufting is a form of embroidery first perfected by the Deh Cho First Nation women in the convent school at Fort Providence and it later spread to other communities. Working with immense patience, the craftswomen shape-dyed moose hair into three-dimensional designs on a darker background.

Purchased from the Deh Cho First Nation artist in 2005 in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, this exceptional piece is part of a collection accumulated while working for the Inuvialuit Game Council in Inuvik, Northwest Territories.

This signed artwork was embroidered by Margaret Rose Elleze of the Fort Providence Deh Cho First Nation, one of the few people left to do this dying art.

The composition is moose hair tufting embroidered on a leather dream catcher. The embroidery is 3.5” long by 2” wide and the dream catcher is a 6” circle.

The total weight is 7 oz.
