This proof set includes both the 1990 silver dollar and the aureate (a bronze-electroplated nickel combination) dollar.

The silver dollar marks the 300th anniversary of Henry Kelsey's exploration of the Canadian Prairies. The reverse depicts a group of Western Natives showing Kelsey a vast herd of buffalos, the first such documented sighting by a white man. 

The proof circulating dollar bears the popular design of the common loon.
