Barcley Custom 12 String Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar
A Barcley Custom 12 String Hummingbird Acoustic Guitar. A beautiful instrument, made in Japan, but with limited information on the history of this guitar. When I researched this item, the only information I could find was from individuals searching for information. There was no concrete evidence, only hearsay.
This is what I learned:
Barcley Instruments were possibly made by Teisco. Teisco was a Japanese manufacturer of affordable musical instruments from 1948 until 1969, when the brand was acquired by Kawai Musical Instruments Manufacturing Co. Ltd. The company produced guitars as well as keyboard instruments, microphones, amplifiers and even drums. This appears to make sense as most owners of a Barcley Custom Guitar say the purchase was made in 1968 or 1969.
The guitar itself is believed to be made from Brazilian Rosewood.
There is a mother of pearl crown inlay on the head stock. I find this extremely interesting because some Gibson guitars have the identical mother of pearl crown inlay.
Due to the lack of information pertaining to the Barclay Custom Guitar and considering the age of these instruments (manufactured in the late 1960's), these guitars may be rare.
